People ask us all the time if we finish basements so we wanted to share one with you. We're going to transform this cold, dark, cinder block walled room into something to be proud of. This was actually 1/2 of a basement that the homeowner wanted finished as an area to use for lounging and listening to their stereo system. We started by bringing in foam-board to sound deaden and insulate the room.

Here the foam board has been attached to the wall using adhesive especially made for use with foam-board. We also used Tyvek Tape to seal the foam-board joints.

We framed the walls and are getting ready to box in the overhead ductwork.

This is a portion of the framing that will eventually conceal the overhead furnace ductwork.

At the homeowners request this is a partition wall that we cut away at the bottom of the stairs.

Here you can see the ductwork is now framed and almost ready for drywall.

This is a different view of the wall that we cutout at the bottom of the stairs.

Electric run to wall boxes for receptacles, & all framing is now complete.

Those steel nailing plates protect the wiring from being hit with a nail or screw when the drywall goes up.

Another shot of the boxes & wiring.

The drywall goes up and is finished with tape & joint compound. The chalk-line is hanging to mark a point where a main T will begin for a dropped ceiling.

Here you can see the rotating laser that we use on all dropped ceilings to be absolutely positive that they are level at all parts of the room.

The dropped ceiling goes up along with the new ceiling lights.

Just after this picture was taken the walls were primed and painted, the carpet was laid, and we finished the room by installing the baseboard trim. Check out the next pictures of the end result.

Welcome
to the new addition!
Here's a view looking down the stairs after the job was finished.

Moving down the stairs we can see the cutout wall as we make a turn to the left.

Making a turn to the left we enter the new area.

The added space is bright, quiet, warm, and cozy. It will be a nice place to relax and listen to the stereo.

Clean crisp lines of the new room.

The preceding pictures show the now completed basement. The homeowner was very pleased with the new finished area.
