Just to prove that we actually "do it all" we were asked by a homeowner to assemble and install a custom basketball hoop in his front yard area. We received the hoop in many boxes and bags.

Here we are doing an inventory of all the parts needed before we start assembly.

We placed the mast on a pair of sturdy saw-horses and started assembly.

The various assemblies are now coming together.

This is a close-up of the counterbalanced lift assembly used to raise or lower the back-board & hoop.

We used a two man gas auger with an extension to loosen the soil. It was then pulled out of the hole via a post hole digger. The wood frame was removed after the concrete had thoroughly cured. The tarp was to keep the soil out of the yard and to keep things neat.

The assembly was set on a concrete base that we poured, then let cure for 3 days. There is approximately 1600 pounds of concrete, rebar for reinforcement,  and four 3 foot long bolts securing it in place. It took a total of 4 men to stand the hoop upright on the base as it was quite heavy and extremely awkward. The height of the hoop is adjustable by pulling or pushing on the U-handle.

BTW: This happy little guy was shooting hoops even before we were able to put our tools away in the van. It may have been raining a bit but trust me, he was oblivious to it.
